Over-60's Greens held

Improving Greens earn a draw
Our last game in the league phase in February was against Kings Hill where we lost 3-2 in the dying seconds to a free kick, so this was a chance to get even.
The first five minutess were a bit nervy with Kings Hill having a couple of shots at goal, but after that Greens took control of the game. Out of possession the Greens kept a good shape and marked tight. Rene Lubbock kept their striker quiet up front whilst Malcolm Bone, Nigel Barretto and Kevin Prangnell, marshalled the midfield really well setting John Gilmour up for a couple of chances at goal which on another night might have found the back of the net.
Goalless at the break, the Greens made a couple of changes at half time, Rob Hull for Bone and Andy Mathews for Barretto, both of whom filled their positions seamlessly, meaning we started the second half the way we finished the first, creating chances up front and keeping it tight when out of possession.
Towards the end of the second half an exhausted Prangnell (who had run/walked his socks off!) was replaced by Barretto to keep things tight as the game entered a nervy last five minutes. Kings Hill had a couple of free kicks and, with just seconds to go, Jim Dalton made a great save that rebounded out to a opposition player who found the net. But, despite a sense of dejavu, the referee ruled it as a run and disallowed goal leaving the game as a goalless stalemate at the final whistle .
The referee was excellent, even offering us the option to play an extra 15 minutes (he didn't realise it was a league game!) and with both sides only giving away two runs each it showed the discipline of both teams.
There is no doubt that the opposition keeper was the busier, which reflects the fact that the Greens were the better team on the night. Well done Greens their performances are improving with each game, in this case, a hard-earned 0-0 draw.
