Angels were edged out of the Kent Senior Cup at the semi final stage by National League side Bromley before 389 spectators.

After a quiet opening the game sprang into life in the 11th minute when following a Tonbridge corner there was a double hit from Sonny Miles which brought two excellent saves from Bromley ‘keeper David Gregory. That was followed by an ambitious acrobatic overhead kick from Liam Smith which was just over the bar.

Bromley scored the only goal of the game on 17 minutes when an attack down their left flank was not properly cleared and although Angels stopper Jonny Henly made a first save he was powerless to prevent JJ Hooper’s follow up shot hitting the back of the net.

On 38 minutes a cross from Angels Jared Small was met first time by Alex Read with once again Gregory pulling off a top drawer save.

Henly was called into serious action in the 41st minute thwarting a dangerous Bromley attack but during that 1st half despite the Ravens having more possession their keeper had more genuine saves to make.

The second half was only moments old when Henly was forced to make a terrific double save to keep his team very much in the game.

Jordan Higgs and Hooper for the visitors both had decent efforts during the second period but overall despite much of the game being played in their half, the Tonbridge defence stood up well to the National League side and on occasions were able to create problems for them when attacking on the counter.

With the clock running down the Angels did build some momentum with a series of corners and from one of those substitute Arthur Lee rose highest to nod the ball goalwards only to see his effort go not much more than a lick of paint past the wrong side of the post from a Tonbridge perspective.

Afterwards Angels Boss, Steve McKimm said: “I’m sorry to be going out of the Kent Senior Cup although the absolute priority is the league. However, the boys can be proud of their performance tonight against a side that plays their football two levels higher than ourselves and also operates full time”

Bromley now go on to face Maidstone United in the final who knocked out Gillingham in a penalty shootout in the other semi final played tonight.
