Under-16's in thriller
The Under 16s played their very good friends and local rivals Langton Green on Sunday.
The Angels flew out of the blocks and took the lead after five minutes after Harry Nott released David Howie to fire home.
New-signing Zach Stead was causing the Langton defence lots of problems with his powerful hold up play. He added the second goal through sheer perseverance chasing down a Langton defender facing his own goal, robbing him of the ball and then firing home.
Angels were now playing with a real confidence; the defence clearing their lines superbly and Stead holding everything up. Balcombe bombed down the right and squared for Haydon Exall to finish calmly and it was looking like the game was sewn up.
Langton had really struggled to create any chances, but just before half time, a Langton midfielder smashed one into the top corner and Angels came in at half time 3-1 up.
Into the second half and the Angels knew the next goal was going to be important, but really invited Langton to press. The no nonsense defending had completely vanished from the firsthalf and we tried to play our way out of trouble and not clearing our lines. We had really lost our shape and when Langton scored from a corner they knew the Angels were on the back foot. Tonbridge then conceded an equaliser and a penalty but that was brilliantly saved by Nat Gibb, but when Angels gave away a silly free kick, Langton fired home in off the post to go 4-3 up. Angels rallied though for the last 20 minutes and when Langton lost a player to the sin bin we threw everything forward. Exall then brilliantly danced around four players to equalise for Angels who were now back in charge. We spent the remaining time camped in the Langton half. Tyrie forced a great save from the Langton keeper from a free kick and the visitors somehow managed to stop the ball being forced home. Howie also hit a pile driver in the last seconds that was brilliantly blocked.
A fantastic game of football for the neutral !
