It’s a trip to the seaside for Angels as they embark on their first away fixture of the season. Eastbourne Borough are the hosts and like their visitors will be wanting to improve on their opening League result.
While the Angels were going down 2-1 at home to Dulwich Hamlet, Sports were to suffer a very late defeat at one of the title favourites Billericay Town. In fact the Essex side only prevailed through a 90th minute strike.
What is certain is that Eastbourne Borough will want to improve on last season’s final position of 18th, two places off the drop zone and will want to get off to a positive start with their first home game.
Angels haven’t played Eastbourne Borough since relegation from Conference South in 2013-14. By coincidence Tonbridge’s last visit to Priory Lane was also early in the season. Tuesday 20th August saw Angels go down 2-1 and it was to set the scene for a difficult season which wasn’t helped by numerous weather postponements. Hopes were raised on 28th December with the same scoreline but this time it was Tonbridge taking the points from Eastbourne Borough, Mark Lovell scoring a brace. It was however all in vain as a succession of defeats in the new year saw the Angels relegated to Isthmian Premier.
