JT Brace Not Enough

Two goals to the good after 52 minutes and Angels should have had this game sewn up but uncharacteristic errors at the back allowed Kingstonian back in and right at the end the hosts even created a chance to win the game.

The first 20 minutes saw Kingstonian in the ascendancy with particular some penetrating runs down their right flank, but the away defence stood firm and gradually Angels worked their way into the game often through the promptings of the superb Tom Beere. Chances fell to Modeste, the aforementioned Beere and Tommy Wood but it was to be Aaron Smith-Joseph who was to assist in the breakthrough. Winning a free kick on the edge of the area following a clever turn, up stepped Joe Turner with a curler that nestled into the top right hand corner of Rob Tolfrey’s goal.

Tonbridge arguably played their best football during the opening 20 minutes of the second half.  Ricky Modeste was brought down in the area and up stepped the former K’s man Turner to once again beat Tolfrey this time from the spot.

The Angels followed this up with some great possession football and only the bravery of Tolfrey prevented the visitors from going further ahead.  Smith-Joseph forced an excellent save from the K’s stopper on 58 minutes following a terrific passage of play involving Modeste, Jerry O’Sullivan and Turner.

It was however to be about as good a it got for the Angels as Turner was forced off with what is to be hoped a minor injury and somehow the equilibrium of the team was disturbed.  Kingstonian who were always prepared to play good possession football rather took control of proceeedings although it took a surprise error from Arthur Lee after 63 minutes to hand the hosts their opening goal scored by Jason Banton.

Goals change games so they say and certainly Kingstonian now had their tales up.  A through ball deceived the Angels defence and there was Daniel Ajakaiye rounding Jonny Henly with the equaliser.   It could have got even worse for the visitors as there was still time for K’s to fashion a further chance but this was thwarted by the visitors.  A draw was probably a fair result over the 90 minutes but Steve McKimm will be concerned at the defensive lapses that was to cost his side a winning result

Afterwards the Angels Boss said: “Two games running defensive errors have cost us. The players know that and I’ve not had to stay too long in the dressing room: the senior players will do what’s necessary.  That said I thought we played some very good stuff at times this afternoon but credit Kingstonian they’ve kept at it and got their reward.”
