Angels line up against Crusaders

Angels travel to West Berkshire this Saturday (28th August) to face a Hungerford Town side opening their home Vanarama National South programme.  The home side without a fixture on the opening day of competition due to the odd number of teams in the league, travelled to Welling Utd last Saturday and came away with a 4-1 win over the Wings.  A result that will surely give them and their supporters confidence although of course the visitors will have other ideas and will want to spoil their day.

It has to be said our record against Hungerford Town has not been particularly good since our return to non-league's second tier.  In 2019/20 we lost 1-0 at Bulpit Lane although a slight improvement did see us gain respectability with a 1-1 draw at Longmead in February 2020.  It was to be our final game in front of spectators due initially to pitch problems temporarily preventing home fixtures followed by the pandemic which of course brought the season to a sudden and early end.

With the continuing Covid 19 disruption last season only one meeting was possible with Hungerford that being a 2-0 defeat for us at home on a disappointing October Saturday afternoon.

How will Hungerford fare this season?  To be honest they have experienced some highs and lows since gaining promotion to National South in 2016 so its never easy to predict their form. After avoiding relegation in 2019/20 despite finishing bottom on a points per game formula, a change of manager in close season saw a dramatic improvement in fortunes and at the time the league was called to a halt in February they were in the final play off berth.

Angels supporters wishing to travel to the game can book on the club coach to save the hassle of driving a fairly long distance. Please click here for all the details.
