Angels victorious in final game before new league campaign
The Angels hosted Margate in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday. The last chance for the teams to play with no jeopardy before the league campaign starts away at Worthing on the 5th of August.
The starting eleven was; Henly, Meade, Lyons-Foster, Fielding, Hinds, Higgs, Wagstaff (c), Powell, Soares-Junior, Fagg, Turner.
The Angels looked good throughout the first half but struggled with the end product. It took until the end of the first half for the score line to change.
Tonbridge took the lead courtesy of a Tommie Fagg header. That’s a sentence that can be copied and pasted from most of the match reports this pre-season.
Tommie had come close earlier on in the half but he was denied by a goal line clearance.
At half time it was - Tonbridge Angels 1, Margate 0.
The second half saw a Margate goal which was disallowed for an offside in the build up, and the introduction of substitutes for both teams but, at the end of the game, the score line had not changed and Tonbridge’s pre-season fixtures were concluded with a win.
Full time - Tonbridge Angels 1, Margate 0.
The manager Jay Saunders commented on the pre-season as a whole “All in all I think there’s been some good performances, some good goals. Could we have done things better at times? 100%. But we can now go away this week and we’ve got two more training sessions to prepare for the start of the league.”
