First half performance sees U18's home
Tonbridge Angels U18's returned from the Isle of Sheppey with three Isthmian Youth League points after a first half that saw them race into a four goal lead.
Dom Welsh, slightly disappointed that his side's quality fell away in the second half commented: "A ruthless first half followed by a second half to forget with the game becoming scrappy and low on quality. But, three points, four goals and we move on to the next game."
The Angels took the lead after eight minutes when a cross field pass saw Callum Fincham set the ball back for Robert Penman to spin and finish well.
The lead was doubled on 23 minutes when Adam Larkin made a surging run from midfield down the right before pulling the ball back for Fincham to curl his shot into the far corner.
In complete control of the game, a short corner routine between Penman and Fiachra Pritchard saw the former producing a cross-cum-shot that deceived the goalkeeper to nestle into the far corner.
Fincham and Penman, proving far too hot (on a cold night) for their hosts, combined down the left with Fincham providing the opening for Penman to shoot across the face of the goalkeeper for his hat-trick.
The second half became a bit of a non-event that eventually gave Sheppey United a consolation goal with five minutes remaining as a corner was tapped in at the far post.
On Monday, the U18's play host to Maidstone United in the third round of the Isthmian Youth League Cup.
