Becks comes to Longmead
We welcome Beckenham Town this evening for a Kent Senior Cup Second Round tie.
Beckenham Town, having been reprieved of relegation from Isthmian League South East in season 2023/24, have made a great start to this season, four points clear at the top of the table as we write.
The last time our visitors came to the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium was in 2008 when they won the Kent Senior Trophy with a 4-0 win over Ashford United. Their last visit for a game against the Angels came in our Kent League championship season of 1992/93 when we beat Beckenham by 4-0 with goals from Steve Clark, Paul Booth, Ian Mawson and Micky Wells.
In the Beckenham squad this season will be Louie Theophanous, ex Bromley and Kingstonian, who we encountered a few times in the Isthmian League, and at the back Jack Holland, who is also ex-Bromley.
Their top scorer this season is Jamarie Brissett with 13 followed by Theophanous with 11 including two on Saturday in their 3-2 home win over Broadbridge Heath.
In our own side Jay Saunders indicated after Saturday’s draw at Torquay United that he would field a strong squad but that could include players who have been recently short of game time.
If the game is all square at 90 minutes, the match will go straight to a penalty shootout, with the winners having been drawn at home to Herne Bay in the next round.
