Herne Bay Preview

We welcome Herne Bay on Tuesday evening for a Kent Senior Cup Quarter Final tie.

Herne Bay, of the Isthmian League South East in which they presently sit in 15th position have beaten Erith Town and Margate to reach this stage of the competition.

On Saturday, in their League campaign they beat our opponents in Round Two, Beckenham Town 1-0 at Winch’s Field with the winner coming from Kane Haysman.

It has to be very unlikely that we will see a repeat of the last time that Herne Bay visited the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium when, for a Velocity Trophy First Round tie, the Angels triumphed 10-1 with goals from Daniel Thompson (2), a Tom Beere penalty, George Beavan, Alex Akrofi (2), Joe Turner, Nathan Elder and Andre McCollin (2).

The Herne Bay squad contains ex-Angel Jack Parter, a much-loved favourite following his four season spell at the club from 2014 in which he amassed 199 appearances, scoring five times from his left back position.

Their top scorer this season is Haysman with 10. The striker, now 29, was a Gillingham youth making a single Football League appearance before carving out a good career in non-league at places such as Sutton United, Eastbourne Borough and Chelmsford. Next on scoring list is Michael Salako on nine. Salako had an outstanding season last term at the Bay, scoring 27 times. Among the other recognisable names are Liam Friend, who had 10 years at Folkestone Invicta, making 550 appearances and the younger brother of ex-Angel Liam Smith, Ethan who was also at Gillingham as a youngster.

With a blank Saturday upcoming, Jay Saunders has indicated that he will put out a strong team. Mo Dabre served his one match suspension on Saturday and there will be opportunities for those that didn’t get minutes at Weymouth. There are a few knocks, niggles and bruises that will obviously affect selection.

If the game is all square at 90 minutes, the match will go straight to a penalty shootout, with the winners awaiting the semi-final draw by the Kent FA.

Admission is: Adults £10; Concessions £8; Youths £5; and U12 Free with accompanying adult and please note that season tickets and community passes are not valid for this game. Cash or card on the turnstile with online tickets available HERE

The Sports Bar and the Tea Hut is open for food and drink and whilst there will be no printed programme on sale an online programme produced by our Editor Dan Couldridge can be found HERE from tomorrow.

Enjoy the game!
