Bath City Preview

Saturday brings a visit to one of the grand old grounds of non-league football. Twerton Park has been home to Bath City since 1932 and whilst it is a little world weary in areas it never loses its charm.

Although probably safe from any relegation threat, Bath City have had a season they will want to move on from as soon as possible; never having had a day in the top half of the table and currently sitting 17th. With the exception of a three game winning sequence over Christmas, around the time manager Darren Way took over, they have not managed back-to-back league victories all season.

Perhaps the best known player in their side is Bradley Ash, who is on loan from last week's opponents Torquay United and scored the second goal in Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Slough Town. Their leading scorer is Scott Wilson with nine followed by Jordan Alves with seven. They also have an England international in their squad, with midfielder Louis Sweeten having just returned from representing the England Colleges side in a tournament in Rome.

Bath City were founder members of the Alliance Premier League, prior to it being renamed as the Conference, in 1979 and remained at the top level of non-league football until 1997 when they were relegated to the Southern League. They were promoted back to National League South in 2007 and returned to the Conference in 2010 after a play-off win against Woking but their stay was only two seasons and have resided in the South ever since.

Our recent history at Twerton Park has been reasonably successful with a point earned last season through a 1-1 draw with an Ethan Sutcliffe goal whilst the season before a Jack Wood goal gave the Angels a 1-0 win.

This season’s reverse fixture back in August resulted in a rather dour goalless draw.

The main grandstand, set back from the pitch with a terraced area in front, has a seated capacity of 771 and requires the climbing of a set of stairs for entry. There is open terracing at both ends, the Bristol End being quite shallow with the Bath End a substantial area of terracing. The Popular Side is fully covered and runs the length of the pitch.

The social club, which is at the back of the main grandstand and accessed before entering the stadium welcomes away supporters. Inside the ground there are food outlets alongside the main stand and on the Popular side.

There is no unallocated parking at the ground. There is free parking at Curo which is a five minute walk to the ground. Street parking should be made with due consideration to the residents.

Train travellers will arrive at Bath Spa in the city centre. Twerton Park is a flat walk from the station and takes approximately 35 minutes or you can catch the number 5 bus from the bus station adjacent to the train station.

Online admission prices are: Adults £15, Concessions £12, Under-18 £7.50 Under-16 £3 and Under-12 £2. Prices online rise by £2 from midnight on Friday and on the turnstiles cash or card is accepted. Online tickets can be purchased HERE.

Enjoy the game
