Enfield Town Preview
Enfield Town, by their own admission, suffered a reality check on Tuesday evening with a 5-0 home defeat inflicted by Eastbourne Borough to bring to a shuddering halt a six game undefeated run that had seen them climb clear of the relegation places.
For about four months it looked as if the relegation issue at the bottom of National League South had been decided, but Enfield had other ideas and that run of six games without defeat, the last four of which were victories, took them out of the relegation zone and at the rate it's going it looks like we'll be paying another visit to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium again next year. The Towners earned promotion from last season’s Isthmian League play-offs with an emphatic win at Chatham Town.
Sam Youngs is the division's in-form goalscorer and quite obviously the one to watch with 15 goals to his credit this season. Youngs scored in all six of those unbeaten games, and netted 10 in 10 from the start of 2025, but was missing from the squad on Tuesday.
Enfield Town have one ex-Angel in their squad, Jake Hutchinson, who had a loan spell with the Angels from Colchester United in 2021 and scored twice in Enfield's 3-1 win at Longmead in December, our first home defeat of the season.
Angels supporters will be making their first trip to the Dave Bryant Stadium (formerly known as the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, but also fondly referred to as Donkey Lane) since 2019 when the two sides fought out a goalless draw.
The stadium also serves as an athletics track for Enfield and Haringey Athletic Club, although unlike Hornchurch, the bends are cut off to allow for spectator viewing behind both goals. The QE2 has always been on a groundhopper’s “must do” list for its 1950’s Grade II listed Art Deco grandstand that houses the clubhouse and changing rooms.
Opposite the main stand is a second, smaller seated, stand, while behind each goal, inside the perimeter of the running track, are two covered terraces.
Catering at the QE2 is covered by Cooking Champions, the club’s catering partners, who have a food hatch next to the turnstiles which serves a variety of hot foods plus matchday specials, as well as tea, coffee etc. Butler’s Bar, serves a range of lagers and ciders and a regularly changing selection of ales from local breweries.
A public car park is situated just off Donkey Lane, next to Enfield Playing Fields, adjacent to the to the QE2 Stadium. The entrance to the car park is at the end of the initial straight section of Donkey Lane. Please do not park on Donkey Lane itself, as there is limited parking for residents and doing so also causes delays and difficulties to other road users.
Enfield Town and Southbury are the nearest train stations to the stadium. Both stations are on the London Overground network leaving around 25 minutes’ walk.
Admission prices are: Adults: £15, Concessions: £11, Under-21: £9; and Under-16 £3. Online tickets have a £1 discount and can be purchased HERE. Cash or Card on turnstile. It should be noted that there is a £3 transfer charge to sit in the main stand and is restricted to those over 16 years of age.
Jay Saunders, looking back on the last few games with Kent Online: “We’re only losing these games narrowly and you would like to think, if we had everyone available, we would have a good chance of making the play-off places. This past month has been one of the most frustrating I’ve ever had in football.”
Enjoy the game!
