Debut visit for phoenix club
Tonbridge Angels will try to maintain our unbeaten start to the season on Saturday when we welcome Salisbury FC to the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium for the first time in their history.
In the 11 years since we last played a team from the city, Salisbury City have folded and a phoenix club have come through the pyramid to their highest ever placing.
Tonbridge have won two and drawn three so far, topped by Bank Holiday Monday's magnificent 2-0 win at Farnborough. Salisbury have won two, drawn two and lost one, the two victories coming against Slough, who are now top, and Boreham Wood, who were playing National League top division football last season.
Manager Jay Saunders said: "I'm expecting a really tough game, I've been impressed by what I've watched at Salisbury so far. They're a good footballing side with players who have been there a few years who have come through the leagues together. Teams who have got promoted have always got that bounce, but we go into the game in good spirits, on the back of a good away win.
"Nothing's won or lost at this stage of the season, compared to last year we're in a better position. My ambitions haven't changed, it's only five games, it's nice to be unbeaten but things can change very quickly. I don't think you'll see the best of us for a few games yet but the start has been very positive."
Noel Leighton, Tariq Hinds and Ben Swift are the only confirmed absentees. Tariq (hamstring) is targeting the Chippenham game as a possible game to be back in contention, Noel (ankle) is hoping to be back in full training in a couple of weeks, and Ben (knee) is making good progress from the operation he had earlier this year.
