Truro City Preview
Saturday’s trip to Truro City is huge in terms of the effort and dedication of every supporter that is making the 600 mile round trip; almost as far west as you can go without falling off a cliff!
Truro City are playing their first season at their new West Langarth home, so it can be safely guessed that this will be a first visit for everyone of us.
The Tinners have made a great start to the season and were second prior to Tuesday evening’s game at league leaders Farnborough where they managed to hold out for a 1-1 draw despite playing the last 20 minutes with only nine men.
Matt Davison previews the men to watch in the Truro side.
The man to watch in the Truro City side is undoubtably Tyler Harvey. Fourteen goals last season, and the league's leading scorer with 10 this year, including three in the last two games, although he was sent off in this equivalent game at Plymouth Parkway last season.
Other players to watch include wide player Jaze Kabia, a summer signing from Clyde, who's on four goals, midfielder Seidou Sanogo, who made the quite substantial journey from Folkestone Invicta to Truro in the summer. They also have in their ranks former Gillingham full-back Ryan Law and Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, on loan from Kidderminster, brother of former England player Alex, and son of another England international Mark Chamberlain.
Last season’s encounters saw the Angels do the double over the Cornish side with a 2-1 win at a very wet Plymouth Parkway, where the game was in doubt until shortly before kick-off, with goals from Sonny Fish and a Lewis Gard penalty. At Longmead, in March, the 2-1 scoreline was repeated but not before the Angels fell behind to a Josh Hinds (Tariq’s brother) goal on 65 minutes. Late goals from Jordan Higgs and a 93rd minute winner for Jamie Fielding sealed the comeback.
Looking forward to the game, Jay Saunders said after Tuesday evening’s win over Dorking Wanderers: “We travel to Truro, it’s a long way. I know some of our supporters will go down there, which is fantastic and we’ve been really fortunate that the club have allowed us to go down there on Friday daytime, so we will prepare as best we can and hopefully get an away win as well. It’s a little bit different, but the club have done all they can the make it as professional as we can.”
The stadium itself, being brand new, is far from the finished article. On arrival, there are six gates, each of which have a designed point of entry. Gate One: VIP guests and working members of the press. Gate Two, Three and Four: Truro City season ticket holders and those fans that have purchased advanced tickets. Gates Five and Six: Pay on the day spectators. Disabled supporters have their own dedicated entrance which is next to turnstiles three and four. Turnstiles will open at 1 pm.
Once inside there is a main seated stand straddling the half-way line with uncovered terraced standing either side of that stand. Behind one goal there is covered terracing with the rest of the ground uncovered hard standing.
Admission prices are: Adults £17; Concessions £15; Under-18 £7 and Under-12 £5. All supporters under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Cash and card accepted. Tickets brought online, in advance, carry a £2 discount and can be purchased HERE
Food and drink is on offer via concessions, provided by the Wax Events. A range of hot food and drinks along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments will be available from the concessions inside the stadium. Cash and card accepted at all concessions. Our resident “footy foodie” David Knight, along with everyone else, has no first hand knowledge of the gourmet quality but simply offers a single line of warning that the Cornish Pasty of the Year was from Devon!
Parking at the Sports Hub in within the Langarth Park and Ride where a section is reserved for football traffic. Parking is free and you are where you need to be. Park, don’t Ride!
For those making their way by train, we are making the presumption that you don’t need to get back to Tonbridge because that is not possible on the day. On arrival at Truro Station, there is the best part of a three and a half mile hike to the ground. The PR1 bus to Langarth Park and Ride departs three times an hour. HERE is a link for the Truro Park and Ride. It serves both the rail station and the city centre.
Safe travels, one and all, heroes every one of you and the club fully appreciates the fantastic effort being made to support Jay and the lads!
