Weston-super-Mare Preview

The travelling Angels support make their final journey of the season to the west country on Saturday, the last of seven long trips and to the hardy bunch that have made all seven, what a fantastic achievement of dedication and commitment, of which we are forever grateful.

This time the destination is the Somerset seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, whose football club finds itself just outside the play-off places in eighth place, just a point behind Maidstone United in the final play-off place with four matches to go.

The Seagulls have been positioned in and around the top seven throughout the season, actually hitting the top of the table in mid-November, before arriving at the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium for the first home game of 2025 on a poor run of form that had seen them go seven games without a win. This was stretched to eight as the Angels ran out 2-0 winners with goals from Sean Shields and Ronny Nelson.

Since that defeat, Weston-super-Mare have recovered their form, lost just three times in the last 17 games and, last Saturday, increased the pressure on those above them with an impressive 3-0 win over Maidstone.

In charge of Weston is Scott Bartlett. Bartlett's first spell was in 2016 before leaving for Forest Green Rovers. He returned to the club in 2019 and won promotion from the Southern League Premier South in 2023.

Their star player is Luke Coulson, who since his move from Dartford in the summer has scored in excess of 20 goals in league and cup including a goal that some are claiming could be the longest range goal ever scored by an outfield player, almost 100 yards, from his own penalty area at Hornchurch. Reuben Reid and Sam Pearson have both netted double figures.

As Weston were relegated from National League South in the same season that we won promotion, our paths went a long time without meeting. Last season they completed the double over the Angels at the Optima Stadium in January when a Robbie Willmott brace helped them to a 3-1 victory.

There is a fair sized car park at the stadium, with a limited amount of match day parking for Blue Badge holders. If a Blue Badge space is required the hosts recommend as early an arrival as possible. Parking is charged at £2 per vehicle, with payment by card only on arrival.

Once the car park is full, it is asked that supporters park responsibly in two nearby industrial estates, which are a 5-10 minute walk from the ground. Supporters are asked not to park on the housing estate opposite the club.

Train travellers will alight at Weston-super-Mare Railway Station which is situated around a mile-and-a-half away from the stadium, a 25-30 minute walk. The Number 7 First Bus service stops directly outside the stadium and runs at regular 20-30 minute intervals from Stop E of the Bus Interchange which is a 5-7 minute walk from the train station, cutting through the Tesco car park.

Admission to the game is priced at Adults £15, Concessions £11, 14-17 years-old £6 and 9-13 years-old £4.50 and can be purchased in advance HERE or cash or card from the turnstile.

The North End of the stadium houses a large covered terrace and incorporates a small block of seating which is situated directly behind the goal. On the Winterstoke Road side are two small covered seated areas that sit astride the player’s tunnel on the halfway line. Behind the south end goal there is small area of covered, flat hard standing.

There are three club bars offering a wide range of drinks and refreshments and two food outlets serving non-alcoholic drinks, burgers, chips etc. Please note all food and bar outlets are card payment only.

Enjoy the game!
