1st Class Joe signs 1st Team Contract

Joe Tyrie signs 1st Team contract 21.10.22.

Home Grown Tyrie takes significant step in footballing career

Central defender Joe Tyrie (18) has signed a contract with the Angels 1st team.  Associated with the club since U9 level, he has formed part of Tommy Parkinson’s very successful Angels Academy squad and impressed 1st team manager Jay Saunders sufficiently to offer him a contract with the senior side.

Joe made his first League start in National South football at the end of last season away at St Albans and made his 1st start of this season in the testing environment of Princes Park last Saturday (15th October) and acquitted himself with assured confidence well beyond his years.

Saunders said : “When I came to the club I mentioned how impressed I was with him.  We let him go and get some games, Corinthian were great with him, and if he hadn’t had an injury he would have started sooner. I’m really pleased with him and I’d have had no hesitation in playing him. I don’t consider him as one of the young players. When he’s involved he just fits in.”

Parkinson added: “I’m delighted for Joe and this is fully deserved.  It shows what can be achieved with natural ability, a willingness to listen and the right attitude and Joe has always shown this in spadefuls.  He came to the club as an U9 and rose through to our Academy where Joe worked immensely hard over his 2 years coming out with a double distinction in his BTEC course. Joe has been one of the outstanding performers for the academy and signing for the 1st team shows the progression that’s achievable and the opportunity given to the young players. Hopefully many more scholars in the future will be rewarded like Joe if they continue to work hard. It’s been a fantastic year for the academy so far with 8 scholars playing for the 1st team and Luca Woodhouse signing professionally for Wycombe Wanderers”
