Angels Spiderettes hit the top

Angels fly highest with victory over Canterbury Eagles
Tonbridge Angels Spiderettes hosted Canterbury Eagles in a top of the table clash on Monday evening, with both teams boasting an undefeated record to date.
The game started off incredibly tight, with both teams showcasing why they sat at the top of the table. Good football all round meant the opening 10 minutes saw very few chances as both teams defended well to keep the score goalless. Some good play from Canterbury eventually saw the deadlock broken around the 10 minute mark, with a neat finish at the near post to beat the impressive Catherine Miller in the Angels goal.
After conceding, Angels settled in to their style of play, creating more opportunities than the opening 10 minutes had shown. This allowed a more open game, in which Miller had plenty to do, including a couple of fine saves from close range, keeping the score at a single goal deficit.
As half time approached, Sarah Fraser eased Tonbridge nerves as she was put through on goal and smashed a finish past the onrushing Canterbury goalkeeper. It was a deserved equaliser and hinted the tide had begun to turn in the Angels favour.
The second half saw a much more settled Tonbridge Angels side. Canterbury, ever dangerous, still had plenty of chances to score, but the defensive combination of Tina Grant and Georgie Myhill in front of Catherine Miller stayed strong.
As the second half progressed and the game seemingly heading for a draw, with a minute to go and nerves building, Sandra Donohoe put Sarah Fraser one-on-one with the goalkeeper out wide, and in typical Fraser fashion, no angle is too tight, she guided the ball into the bottom corner.
To see the game out, Angels sured up at the back for a victory which puts them one point above Canterbury and top of the league.
Player of the Match was shared between Tina Grant and Catherine Miller for a dominant defensive display and a cracking game between the sticks.
