Despite no football at Longmead you can still donate to the Sustain Community Foodbank by taking your donations direct to the Tonbridge Baptist Church, just a few steps up Darenth Avenue from our ground.  Please bring your donations which can be left at Tonbridge Baptist Church reception between 9.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Fridays and try to combine it with an essential journey for your own provisions or as part of your daily exercise .  See below for those items particularly needed.  NOW MORE THAN EVER DURING THE CURRENT EMERGENCY PEOPLE ARE IN NEED OF BASIC PROVISIONS.  PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN ALWAYS OBSERVING THE CURRENT AND CORRECT SOCIAL DISTANCING (1 METRE +, PREFERABLY 2 METRES) THANK YOU.   THE CURRENT CORONAVIRUS CRISIS HAS RESULTED IN EVEN MORE PEOPLE SUFFERING FOOD POVERTY.

Tonbridge Angels is delighted to announce its support of Sustain, a community foodbank run by Tonbridge Baptist Church(TBC). Sustain exists to provide emergency food supplies to local people experiencing a short term need.

For a variety of reasons, the use of foodbanks has soared in the past few years and Sustain is no different. Money is tight for many people, especially those on fixed household incomes and many struggle to afford to feed themselves and their families with the continual price increases in basic food items.

Jemma Graffin, Community Work Co-ordinator, TBC explains, "Food poverty has grown significantly over the last few years to the point that 1 in 3 people living in our local community are living in Poverty*.  We live in the 5th largest economy in the world - no one should have to go hungry if we can all work together."

TBC distributes food parcels to recipients referred by front line agencies. They also partner with several local supermarkets who donate food that has reached its “best before” date but is still good to eat. Tonbridge Angels is joining the Fans Supporting Foodbanks movement by asking both home and away supporters to donate food items at 1st Team matches. Food Sustain currently need:

Amy Weaver, Vice Chair of Tonbridge Angels FC said, “A recent report found that around 10% of households in the UK are food insecure, meaning that they have limited access to adequate food. Many parents skip or reduce meals so their children can eat. Food, water, clothing, and shelter are basic human rights and Tonbridge Angels is proud to extend its support to the foodbank run by TBC to help those in most need in our town. We are a fan owned club with a strong sense of family and community and hope we can harness the power of football to make a difference to those who are struggling.”
