Boreham Wood Preview

Boreham Wood

All you need to know ahead of Saturday's game

Saturday brings our final journey of 2024. There is a very special group of supporters who have been there every step of the way. We thank you, we salute you!

Our year on the road ends in Hertfordshire at Meadow Park, home of Boreham Wood Football Club. Our hosts are enjoying their first season back in National League South after 10 years in the national division. They come into Saturday’s game in fine form, in second place just a point off the top and unbeaten in eight games.

The task doesn’t come a lot tougher, as recognised by Jay Saunders: “I know Luke (Garrard) really well, I’ve come up against him many times over the years. His side will be very organised but full of good players that is a National League squad. It will be a tough task for us on Saturday but it is one that we look forward to. It’s a nice ground, nice pitch and the players get to test themselves against good players.”

Our hosts’ squad includes Kwesi Appiah who is in a rich vein of form having scored eight times in the last five games and 15 for the season. Appiah, a Ghanaian international, came to the attention of Crystal Palace following a eye-catching spell at Margate. He made six appearances at Selhurst Park before embarking on a series of EFL loan spells. He joined Boreham Wood in the summer of 2023 from Crawley Town. Lee Ndlovu has eight goals for the season, whilst there is plenty of Football League experience in the side with Jack Payne and Josh Hare (Gillingham), Charlie Clayden (Charlton) whilst goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore and Tyrone Marsh saw time at our neighbours Ebbsfleet United.

This will be our first visit to The Meadow for 10 years, an inauspicious visit that is least said, best forgotten as, in our relegation season, we slumped to a 7-0 defeat, ending the match with nine men after Chris Piper and David Ijaha collected red cards.

The hosts have decided not to segregate for our visit and our supporters are now asked to enter the stadium through the north turnstiles which will allow our fans to use the clubhouse facilities within the ground as well as the catering outlets in the north east corner.

Those travelling by car should use the public car park in Brook Road then follow the path next to the tennis courts before walking to the left into the club forecourt. Stewards will be at the car park to direct people.

The closest train station is Elstree & Borehamwood, located on the Thameslink line with easy access from many of London’s major train stations which leaves a 20 minute walk. Supporters should take notice that there are scheduled engineering works on the route.

Online admission prices are: Adults £18 Concessions (65+)  £16 Aged 16-19 £10 Under 16 £8 Under 14 £6 and Under 5 £2 and can be purchased HERE. Prices at the turnstile rise by £2.

Boreham Wood have designated this game as Ladies Day whereby women and girls have free admission. The tickets should be obtained online before 2pm on Saturday or at the ticket office.

The Main Stand is a modern, all-seated stand, that has a capacity of 500 and is covered and free of supporting pillars, giving a good view of the playing action. It runs for around half the length of the pitch and sits astride the halfway line.

The West Stand, opened by Arsene Wenger in 2014, has a capacity of 1,200 seats and is covered. Supporters who might find steps difficult should be aware that it is quite steep.

The North End of the stadium Is a terrace set back from the pitch perimeter and the South End has portions of open terrace and flat standing areas.

Perhaps a first for the Angels is that we will visit a ground that only three days previously was hosting a Champions League game as Arsenal Women entertained Bayern Munich.

After three successive home games in which the Angels have taken six points out of nine, we go into Saturday’s game in 10th place, just a couple of points off the play-off positions with a game in hand on most of the clubs in front of us. Taylor Maloney is likely to be out for a month with Noel Leighton, a long-term absentee through injury.

Away from the visit to Boreham Wood, attention is drawn to the Boxing Day match against Maidstone United with tickets available HERE. Paper tickets are available from the club office on Monday and between 10am-12 midday on Christmas Eve.

Enjoy the game!
