Today! Football is for Everyone Day
An event at The Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium that recognises diversity in football
Join us on Saturday 4th February for a feast of football that celebrates and recognises diversity in the game we all love.
The Tonbridge Angels vision statement includes the words ‘embraces diversity’ , but the challenge for vision statements in any organisation however well meaning is that they can easily gather dust on the wall of an office or a clubhouse. There has to be demonstrable and proven evidence that in the case of Tonbridge Angels ‘diversity in football’ is a credible proposition and something that everyone at the club should and can be signing up to.
With this in mind we shall be holding Football is for Everyone Day when our 1st team entertain Worthing FC. However this day is not just about the 1st team but is where diversity kicks in. Starting at 9:00am there will be an Inclusivity Tournament with teams from the Trans and LGBTQ community including London Titans FC, TRUK FC, England Fans FC and Fans for Diversity FC. This will be followed by a disability match between Angels and Worthing and then the regional finals of the U11 Primary School Horsepower Cup, the winners going through to the next stage of the competition with ultimately a chance to play at Wembley in May. This will be the curtain raiser to the National South fixture against Worthing 1st team which kicks off at the traditional time of 3:00pm. Afterwards, socialising will continue in the Angels Marquee.
Specific timings for the various events are as follows:- The Football for Everyone Tournament starts at 9:00am and runs through until 1:00pm with 30' for each match. At 1:00pm the Horsepower Cup U11 Tournament will take place and at the same time on a separate area of the pitch there will be an exhibition of disability football with a 7 a side Angels side playing a Worthing Disability side. These matches will all conclude by 1:30pm after which the Angels and Worthing 1st teams will commence their pre-match warm ups for the National South fixture at 3:00pm.
Turnstiles will be open at 9:00am and if people want to stay for the entire day including the Angels v Worthing National League South game, we’ll charge them when they arrive, and give them a ticket. Following the conclusion of the diversity tournament at 1:30pm the fans will be invited to leave via the exit at the north end of the ground, unless they hold a ticket. If they did not purchase a ticket upon entry but wish to stay, they should exit the ground at the north end and re-enter via the turnstiles, paying on the way back in.
Tea bar will be open from 9:00am for hot and cold drinks and food, while the Angels Sports bar will open from 12:00pm and the Angels Marquee Bar from 12:30pm.
