Fumnaya becomes Angels first summer signing
Attacking midfielder joins the squad
Tonbridge Angels are pleased to announce their first new signing of the summer with the arrival to the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium of Fumnaya Shomotun, who ended last season at Dartford.
Fumnaya, a 26 year-old Nigerian-born, attacking right-sided midfielder spent his formative years in youth football at Brentford before moving to Barnet as a 17 year-old making his first team debut against Concord Rangers in the FA Trophy. Barnet were promoted to the EFL in his first season.
He was at Barnet for five years, making 20 appearances, spending time at loan at Staines Town, Margate and Wealdstone, where he permanently joined after being released by the Bees in 2018.
Fumnaya had short spells at Hayes & Yeading, Wingate & Finchley and Kingstonian before putting down roots for two seasons at our Isthmian League neighbours, Sevenoaks Town, where he enjoyed a successful stay making 42 appearances, scoring nine goals which brought attention from then National League South Dartford for whom he made 16 appearances, scoring twice last season.
Jay Saunders said of his signing; “Fum is someone that came in and trained with us last year but at the time we could not take him, but really liked him. We kept an eye on him after he signed for Dartford and he did really well. We were really impressed with the impact he made there. He is someone, I feel, that on the right hand side we struggled at times, who will give us that real balance and I think he will become a fans’ favourite. He is quick, direct, likes to beat players and is someone, I’m sure, will be a big success for us.”
