Jay's Friday Briefing
"They're a club on the up. It's a banana skin"
Last season we had the joint best FA Trophy run in our history. This year our campaign starts on Saturday with a home game against Bracknell Town.
The draw has thrown up a coincidence, as Bracknell's joint managers are Carl Withers and Jamie McClurg, who were Binfield managers when they beat us in the FA Cup.
Manager Jay Saunders said: "I'd like to say it would be good to see them again, not sure it will be! But no, seriously, they went there shortly after beating us. I'd like to think they see a different team to the one they saw that day at Binfield. They deserved it. But it's a different competition, a different team, we're prepped and ready to go, but they're a good side, we have to show them respect. They're a club on the up and obviously they had a good run in the FA cup, losing to Ipswich on TV. It's a banana skin, it's up to us to make sure it isn't."
Speaking on the importance of the competition, Jay added: "It's very important. It's a competition where as a player I had a decent run but as a manager I've never had a good run. It's bugged me. I've always had terrible draws. If you draw the right teams, you're lucky and get through the early rounds you've got a realistic chance of getting a long way. Tonbridge did last year and it's something I'm keen to do especially having gone out of the FA Cup early.
"None of the injured players are coming back, there are a few with knocks and niggles that we'll have to look at in the morning, Nathan Wood is cup tied, but we welcome Jordan Greenidge into the squad which will be a good addition for us."
