Jay's Friday Briefing

Jay Saunders Oct 22

Sonny on course for 500 appearances but its a tough one against the league's top scorers

The perfect way to celebrate Sonny's 500th game for the club would be to get three points against Havant and Waterlooville.

However, Tonbridge will need to be at our best against a side who could go top tomorrow and are the league's top scorers with 43.

Manager Jay Saunders said: "I've managed against Paul Doswell down the years and one thing he always has is an experienced side with good energy.  I expect them to be right up there pushing Ebbsfleet all the way and it's a real tough test.  We just have to take the positives out of Tuesday and try and get a good result.

"Whatever side they put out is good, when you look at the top sides, whenever they make changes it doesn't weaken the side.  You have to concentrate for 95 minutes against them.  When they lost to Welling on Saturday they brought on Prior to play up front with Wright and it's impressive.  But we've proved we can beat the top sides this year, such as Ebbsfleet, we've done OK.  It's been against the lower ones we've dropped points in games we shouldn't have."

Team news wise, it will be similar to Tuesday with the exception of our new loan signing.

Jay added: "We'll be similar, we'll still be without Lewis Gard, there's a chance Craig Braham-Barrett might be back, but that's why we've brought Jack Wood in.  After letting TQ, go Ruben's picked up this groin injury, which is a blow, and after tomorrow we lose Joe Turner for his operation, so Jack gives us another option.

"We've also let Joe Tyrie go to Faversham for a month.  We've had quite a few teams asking about him.  In an ideal world we'd have some friendlies but we haven't been able to.  He needs to keep progressing, Parky can play there so we thought we'd let Joe go out, get some games, and keep his fitness up, because he's going to be important for us after the Christmas period."
