Jay’s Friday Briefing

It’s a different game, we’ll be well prepared - Jay
Jay Saunders hopes his side have learned lessons from Boxing Day in the return fixture against Welling United on New Years Day. Although it's the same opponents, he expects the game to be different to six days earlier.
In his Friday briefing he told us: "Their pitch is a lot different to ours, it's a lot smaller, there's a slope, and teams play differently at home than they do away so it becomes a different game. It's a good challenge but it's one we're looking forward to. In the final third (on Boxing Day) we weren't good enough on the day and we didn't take chances. We've got to be better in that final third, we're capable of beating anyone, we've proved that, but this league is unpredictable. It gave us a look at what they're all about, they'll be confident. We won't let the result affect us, our away performances have been good, and I think we can go there and have a good go at it."
So what can we expect for team selection? Well, Jay confirmed there will be at least one change to the squad:
"We'll think about what we do for team selection. Ruben (Soares-Junior) is back in contention after training for a couple of weeks, Joe Turner and Tommie Fagg have had minutes, so we've got a lot more options.
"Because of that we've released Dajon Golding. I felt with Ruben and JT coming back it would limit his opportunities. I brought him in as a forward really, but then we had injuries which meant he played wide. Then Jordan came in and scored goals, and Louis has done well so I had to be honest and tell him he wouldn't get the game time he wants. He's a great lad, he showed glimpses, for instance at Worthing he was probably one of our best players, but it didn't quite work out. I'm sure he won't have a problem getting another club."
