“We weren’t good enough in both boxes”

Tonbridge are hoping to recover from a disappointing Christmas period when Slough visit Longmead on Saturday.

After the two defeats to Welling, each by a single goal, Jay Saunders knows exactly what needs to improve:

"Performance wise it wasn't bad, we weren't good enough in both boxes.  It's disappointing to come away with no points, that's harsh on us, we have to move on and try and pick up three points.

"When we played Slough earlier in the season I was impressed with them, it was a game of two halves.  They've made changes, Scott Davies has come in, he's a player manager.  I've been there.  It's tough, you take a long time to get things sorted, but in their last two results they've taken four points off Oxford.  They're going in the right direction, Luca Woodhouse, an ex Tonbridge academy boy, is there, and they've just signed Francis Amartey, so he's obviously stamping his mark on it."

After a season hit by injuries we are now looking to have nearly the entire squad to choose from, with Doug Loft now the only definite absentee.

Jay said: "The only one who's a potential doubt is Louis Collins who's been ill, he didn't train last night.  Ben Swift should be ok, we'll have to see in the morning, and with some of the players who've been out, like Ruben and Tommie Fagg, they need minutes which is why we've arranged a friendly (against Ashford) on Tuesday night."
