Jay's Friday Briefing

Jay speaks to Matt Davison prior to tomorrow's huge derby against Dartford

The battle for the play-offs goes down to the last four games, but with a tough one ahead of us on Saturday against Dartford, who will secure their place if they win.

Manager Jay Saunders agrees Dartford are next best to Ebbsfleet, as the league table shows:

He said: "You're not where you are by luck at this stage of the season.  Ebbsfleet won the league, Dartford are second, and you're there on merit.  I know Dows is desperate to keep second and it'll be tough, especially after their result on Thursday.  They're going to be well up for it.  Any game against Dartford is tricky, and there's a bit extra with them trying to get second and us trying to close the gap and get play-offs.

"I wouldn't say if we lose the play-offs have gone.  With other teams performances and results I think if we get three wins from the four games we'll be in there but you don't know, it's such a crazy season top and bottom.  We're going to take it a game at a time, we need to get three points to keep it alive.  If we get two good result in the next couple of games we go into the last two games with a chance of making it.

"Everyone's available, there was no-one in the physio room and we're raring to go.  We're picking teams on whatever is right for that game, that might upset some of them.  In my head I've got the right team and we'll put a team out which we think can get three points."

We also asked about the possibility of Doug Loft making a return before the end of the season after suffering an achilles injury in August.  Sadly, Jay thinks that's less likely to happen:

"I'd say it's not likely, but he's made good progress.  Unless he's 100% we won't force him, he knows his own body, he's been around long enough.  I would love to say yes.  I've got a lot of respect for Doug, he's been great to have around.  Also I can't be sentimental.  If we're fighting for play offs it's got to be right for us as well."
