Kent Youth League Preview

Our KYL coaches look forward to the weekend's matches

It’s a busy weekend of fixtures for our Kent Youth League sides, especially the Under-15’s who have games on Saturday and Sunday.

So, we will start with the Under-15’s, who have a Saturday game at the Yeomans Community Stadium, with an 11am kick-off, in the London County Cup against Lambeth Tigers, who as James Ward explains will be tough opposition: “We head into the biggest test of our season so far this weekend with two extremely tough fixtures. First up, we kick off our London County Cup campaign on Saturday with a home tie against last year’s champions, Lambeth Tigers. It’s a massive challenge, but we’re excited to host such a top side and test ourselves at this level.”

They return to Kent Youth League on Sunday when they travel to Faversham Town for a 12:30pm kick-off at Salters Lane, Faversham ME13 8ND. James added: “Then, just 24 hours later, we’re back in action against last year’s KYL South champions, Faversham. Luke, their coach, is a top lad and a quality coach. I know his side will be extremely well organised and tough to break down. The boys are training incredibly hard and are fully focused. We’re super excited to see where we stand against two of the very best sides.”

Sunday’s KYL action at the Yeomans sees the Under-13’s take on Snodland Town for a second week on the trot, this time in the Kent County Cup, looking to avenge last week’s defeat as Olly Pantrey previews: “The U13’s face Snodland Town again on Sunday, this time in the Kent County Cup. This will be the team’s first experience of this prestigious competition and represents a major milestone for the players. Training in the build-up has been positive, with clear progress on key themes such as line-breaking, decision-making and ball security, both in and out of possession. The group has shown real focus on improving their first touch and scanning, before and after receiving, ensuring better use of possession under pressure. Despite last week’s result, spirits remain high and the squad are motivated, prepared and eager to test themselves again in what promises to be a competitive and exciting contest.”

The Under-14’s travel to Dulwich Village for a 12:30pm kick-off, at Pond Cottages, Dulwich College Sports Club, College Road, London SE21 7LE. Oliver Stell previews a game between two unbeaten sides: “The U14’s are on the road again this weekend as we travel to Dulwich Village FC to take on the league leaders who top the table on goal difference. This is an extremely exciting fixture, with both teams currently 3/3 in the win column, these are the types of games we relish. A 3G pitch makes the away trip feel a little more homely in what we estimate to be a really tight game. A full squad and some seriously impressive training puts us in a confident mood heading into Sunday.”

The tricky away trips keep on coming for the Under-16’s who, following last week’s impressive performance at Bromley, travel to Chislehurst Glebe for a 10am kick-off at Foxbury Avenue, Chislehurst BR7 6SD. Adam Barden looks forward to another tough test: “Our U16’s have yet another away game, our fourth in four weeks, on Sunday when meet unbeaten Chislehurst Glebe. After a brilliant win last week the boys have had two fantastic training sessions, heads are switched back on. With a few injuries in our ranks it sets up to be another week of many minutes for the boys and will be another full team effort to hopefully keep our winning streak going.”

Good luck to all our teams and enjoy the games!
