Two County Cup wins and league points as the Angels' weekend is undefeated

Last Sunday’s Kent Youth League (KYL) matches brought County Cup progress for the Under-13’s and 14’s and league points for the Under-15’s, who maintain their position at the top of the table.

The U13’s cruised into the next round with a comprehensive 6-0 win against Baypoint at the Yeomans Community Stadium as Oliy Pantrey reports: "The U13s recorded a convincing 6–0 win at home to Baypoint in the Kent County Cup this week. Building on recent defensive and pressing work, the side showed excellent control in possession and repeatedly broke into wide areas to create scoring chances. Two early goals came from high pressing before further strikes followed through confident forward play and improved first-time finishing inside the box. A dominant display throughout, with the squad showing clear progress in both out-of-possession shape and attacking intent. Attention now turns to next week’s league fixture against Aylesford which will likely be a very physical test for the players.”

Under-13 scorers: Carey (2), Craske (2), Sehkar, Carmona

The Under-14’s also enjoyed County Cup success with a home win over Kings Hill as Oliver Stell reviewed: “Angels Under-14’s hosted Kings Hill in the Kent County Cup this weekend. From previous years, we knew Kings Hill would be athletic and enjoy the challenge of the big pitch. Angels took their time but on the 20 minute mark some great play resulted in Jack Barratt crossing for Jack Murray to grab the opener. Soon after, Barratt once again influenced the game by driving into the box, being brought down for a penalty. The  Kings Hill keeper made a quality save down to his right but unfortunately pushed it into the path of Iden Newman who tucked it in the far corner from an acute angle.

“Kings Hill came out for the second half with a different formation. Angels, heavily rotating the team, took them a little while to settle into the second half and a shot from distance was parried into the path of the Kings Hill winger to tap in at the back post.

“Angels, not at their best, were given a hard time but managed the game well. Some interesting decisions from the official allowed for the game to descend into a battle, in which the Angels were more than happy to oblige. On the hour mark the Angels goalkeeper, Vinnie Bourne, sent a ball long over the top into the path of Dudley Whittington who held off the defender and finished calmly to score for a fourth game in a row.

“Credit must go to Kings Hill who made the game tougher than we anticipated, they certainly battled well. In the end, the Angels’ class shone through and we head into the last 16.”

League points were at stake for the Under-15’s as they travelled to Homelands to meet Ashford and they duly delivered as James Ward reports: “A change in formation to suit the personnel available for our trip to Ashford saw us start a little slowly, and we went 1–0 down early on. We soon levelled through Jurgen Pali and although we were struggling to fully adapt to the new system, we stuck with it to give the players an opportunity to develop and learn.

“Going in at 1–1 at halftime, we decided to revert back to our favoured formation. From there, we controlled the game well and went 3–1 up with Pali recording a hat-trick. Ashford pulled one back late on with a fantastic long range strike, but we managed the game effectively to see it out and stay top of the league, still with a game in hand. This was another good challenge and valuable learning experience for the boys.”

On Monday evening, the Isthmian Youth Under-18’s did their heavy lifting in the first half, scoring five times against previously unbeaten Cobham with goals from Ashley Lucas (3), Robert Penman and River Ballach.
