KYL Preview
A look ahead to Sunday's KYL programme
Three of our Kent Youth League teams are in action on Sunday, with the Under-15’s and 16’s involved in Kent FA Youth Cup action, whilst the Under-14’s have no fixture.
Important to note, is that due to the Women’s WFA Cup tie against Brentford at the Yeomans Community Stadium, the U13’s match will be held at Leigh Academy, Mascalls, Maidstone Road, Paddock Wood TN12 6LT with a 2pm kick-off.
The U13’s opponents will be Rochester City, who have made a strong start to the season as Oliver Pantrey previews the game: “Following on from an excellent performance in the League Cup last Sunday, the U13 squad host Rochester City this weekend in the league. It's another excellent opportunity for the players to demonstrate their learning from training, whilst matching themselves up against a strong Medway side, who are currently unbeaten this season. The squad has focused on forward combinations in the last few weeks and we hope to see them set out an attacking stall in which should be a tight affair. With new players coming into the side, the playing style is still emerging but each week is seeing progression, which is exactly what we want from the boys.”
The Under-15’s begin their Kent FA Youth Cup campaign with a home fixture at the Yeomans against Bearsted which will kick-off at 11.30am.
Bearsted have made a strong start to their Kent Youth League season with four points from their opening two games and last Sunday a winning performance away at Hastings United.
James Ward previews: “We're fortunate to have a home tie for our first cup game of the season. Cup fixtures always bring a different kind of buzz, knowing it’s a must win with no second chances adds pressure and excitement.
“Every team handles that pressure differently. As we've seen at the highest levels of the game, some sides are simply built for cup football. Whether it’s the mentality, the style of play, or just rising to the occasion, some teams just find a way and that's what we aim to do.
“We know, whoever we face in the County Cup, it will be a challenge. The draw hasn’t been kind to us, with Bearsted currently second in the league, up next. It’ll be a tough test, but these are the games you want to be involved in.
“It’s another great opportunity for the players to continue gelling and to build on the style we're developing, in and out of possession. Training’s been sharp this week, the lads are focused, and we're ready to go.”
The Under-16’s begin their Kent FA Youth Cup journey on the road to Erith and Belvedere with the game being played at Foots Cray Rugby Sports and Athletic Club, 239A Footscray Road, London SE9 2EL with a 2pm kick-off.
This E&B side play outside of the KYL in the South East London and Kent League, so as Adam Barden previews: “We are really looking forward to another cup game this weekend when we travel to Erith and Belvedere FC Selkent in Round 1 of the Kent Cup. We don’t know much about the opposition, but we will go into it focused on ourselves and hopefully we can replicate the last two results and keep the momentum going for a third consecutive win.”
Good luck to all of our KYL sides and enjoy the games!
