Taylor Maloney

Jay gets his man as midfielder is added to the squad

Tonbridge Angels are delighted to confirm the signing of Taylor Maloney for the upcoming season.

Taylor, a 25 year-old midfielder, joins having spent the second half of last season at Dartford.

As a youngster Taylor spent his youth career at Charlton Athletic, having joined them as a 14 year-old before signing as a scholar in 2015 followed by his first professional contract in 2017. In his time at the Valley he was to make two first team appearances and spent time on loan at Concord Rangers and fellow EFL club Newport County, where he made 10 appearances, scoring three times.

On the expiration of his contract at Charlton, he joined Bromley for the 2021/22 season before signing for Lewes, where he enjoyed a successful spell with 10 goals in 32 starts.

That time at the Dripping Pan brought about a move into National League South with Welling United, where our supporters might recall a stunning strike against the Angels on New Year’s Day 2023. That was one of 11 goals with 13 assists, in 39 appearances for the Wings.

Last season, he began at Farnborough before moving to Dartford.

Jay Saunders said of his new signing: “Taylor is someone with have been trying to get in for the last two seasons since I came to the club and unfortunately missed out on him twice but he made contact in the summer. We have known about him for a long time, he has got great ability and I think he can add goals from midfield, he will shoot on sight, which is something we have been looking at and a real good lad to have around the place; someone who is comfortable on the ball and will be a great addition to the team and bring goals and experience at this level but is still at a great age.”

Taylor responded: “Firstly, buzzing to be here. Obviously, Tonbridge Angels are a club going in the right direction and with Jay; the attractiveness of the football that’s played, I just want to kick on, be part of a team that can get into the play-offs and have a good season.”
