McKimm - ‘Read nothing into Braintree’s league position’

Steve looks ahead to our encounter away to ‘The Iron’

Angels boss Steve McKimm says we should take little notice of basement club Braintree Town's league position and recent form as we prepare to visit Cressing Road.

He reminds us it was a similar story before our last meeting and that didn't go well.

"Don't read anything into that, we came unstuck last time.  When we played them last season they hadn't won for god knows how long, Ryan Maxwell takes over and they turn up at our place and win 2-0.  They're functional, he has them playing the way he wants them to play, they're hard working and we just have to find a little niche where we can hurt them.  It's not the nicest place to go on a cold day but if we go there and get our minds right we'll be OK."

Following our win against Billericay, we asked Steve to explain why we're doing better away from home than at home this season, but that's something he disagrees with.

He said: "You say we're doing well away from home, but we're doing well at home too.  Concord was one unfortunate slip, last week it was dubious decisions, and if you lose games people say your home record isn't good, but it is, it's just things are not going for us at home, but they are going for us away, Jonny saves a penalty in the last minute (at Billericay).  But I think we're playing well in every game we play at the moment."

For only the second time this season, McKimm has a midweek game to consider against Havant on Tuesday night, so will he consider the games as a pair and pick his team accordingly?

"I won't see it as rotation, I will see what happens at Braintree, see what niggles and knocks we get and adjust it to see what we need to do Tuesday, but we'll get Saturday out of the way first.

"It'll be a similar squad to last week.  Aaron Smith-Joseph and Craig Braham-Barrett might be back in contention so hopefully we'll have all sixteen players available for the first time if everyone is fit."

Tickets for our home game against Havant & Waterloovile on 9th November are now available by clicking Here.
