Mikey steps up

18-year-old midfielder added to squad
As many supporters would have heard during Jay Saunders’ interview following Saturday’s game against Slough Town, the club can welcome to the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium, 18-year-old Mikey Berry, who arrives from Ashford United.
Mikey is a product of the Charlton Athletic Academy, who he joined at 14 years of age, after spending time at Arsenal.
On his release from Charlton, he signed for Isthmian League South East club, Ashford United, after spending the summer playing senior football in Sweden.
His manager at the time of signing, Danny Kedwell, predicted that Ashford wouldn’t be able to hold on to Mikey for long, and after 29 appearances, the Angels made a seven day approach.
Jay said of his signing: “He’s a midfielder I’ve known for a long time, he’s only a young lad but he has good quality, ex-Charlton and has done really well down at Ashford.”
The necessary paperwork could not be completed for him to be involved on Saturday but everyone at Tonbridge Angels wishes Mikey an enjoyable time with the club.
