Nayan leaves for the Gills

U18's member earns a place in Gillingham's Academy

Nayan Grant, a member of our Under-18 squad this season, has earned a scholarship place with Gillingham’s Academy after a successful trial period.

Nayan has represented Bermuda at Under-15 and Under-17 age groups and arrived in the United Kingdom to continue his education at 15 years of age.

He signed for Angels midway through last season and after impressing over various training sessions, Nayan soon became a mainstay in the U18 line up and with confidence, swagger and an infectious personality, Nayan quickly became a squad favourite.

Nayan’s attitude to learn and an ethic to achieve his goals is outstanding whilst his pace, power and athleticism would be an asset to any squad.

After impressing in numerous games during pre-season, he attracted the attention of Gillingham which culminated in the EFL club approaching Tonbridge Angels to take Nayan on an eight week trial.

Unfortunately, for the Angels U18’s, this limited Nayan’s involvement this season, but after a prolonged trial period, Nayan has been offered an initial short term deal to sign for the Gills with the view of extending at the end of the current season.

Dom Welsh, the U18’s manager, paid tribute to Nayan: “We are absolutely delighted for Nayan, beyond his playing ability, he is an absolute character, with an unbelievable outlook to achieving his goals. He will absolutely light up any squad both on and off the pitch. This opportunity is fully deserved and one I know, he’ll grab with both hands.”
