Sonny Miles to leave Tonbridge Angels
Join us at Longmead tomorrow afternoon for our Captain's farewell
Tonbridge Angels FC can today confirm that long-serving player and captain Sonny Miles will depart the club at the end of the season.
Sonny has been a quite incredible servant to the football club – a local Tonbridge lad who made his debut for the Angels in December 2008, he has gone on to break Tonbridge Angels FC’s all time appearance record, turning out for the Angels in more than 520 matches. A great deal has changed around the club in that time, but one constant has been Sonny’s presence at the heart of the defence. A true leader on the pitch and in the changing room, Sonny has been able to balance football, family life and a successful career in the construction industry. He was an integral part of two promotions for the Angels, and will forever be a part of the folklore of the club.
Tonbridge Angels FC 1st Team Manager Jay Saunders said: “Sonny has been a fantastic captain since I have been at the club. Whilst things move on in football, Sonny should be proud of everything he has achieved at Tonbridge Angels FC, and his appearance record won’t be beaten. He’s proven himself time and time again at this level, but more importantly is a top man away from the pitch. I would like to thank Sonny for all of his efforts and wish him all the very best for the future.”
Speaking about the news this morning Dave Netherstreet, Chairman of Tonbridge Angels FC, said: “It is always a very sad time when a player who has played so many seasons for one club leaves. I have the greatest admiration for Sonny for his dedication and loyalty over the years to The Angels and the success that he has brought to the team as a senior player and captain. I have been privileged to see most of the games that Sonny has played and his whole-hearted endeavour could never be questioned. I wish him and his family all the very best for the future and thank him for everything that he has done for the club. He is a true legend.”
Tomorrow’s match against Cheshunt is a wonderful opportunity for supporters to say goodbye to a true Angels legend, so please do come down and show your appreciation. There’s only one Sonny Miles.
