Steve’s Thursday Evening Briefing
Boss tight lipped on Angels stopper
Steve McKimm knows the answer to the question on everyone's lips for Braintree's game, who is going to play in goal. But he won't be answering that question before the paperwork has gone through.
"Yes I've got a goalkeeper, we're just hoping for the registration to go through. Toby's got commitments at school, which is unlucky for him but that takes priority in his life at the moment," said Steve.
There's also encouraging news with our outfield players too, Thursday's training permitting.....
"Ibz (Olutade) came through training Tuesday, so hopefully he'll be in contention, and Joe Turner is back after the birth of his daughter with Lorna. Also Ricky Modeste is back running and training, so hopefully we'll see him soon."
Both sides have had a good start to 2022. We start the game eight points clear of the one relegation spot. Braintree are eleven clear, and Steve is playing down the direct significance of this game in the relegation battle.
"I didn't do it for the Billericay game and I'm not doing it now. There are twelve games to play after this. After Billericay people thought we were safe and all of a sudden teams start winning, we played one game and lost that. Everyone's close, you've just got to tick off the games and the points when we can. If we don't get anything Saturday we look at the next game, which is Concord which we have to get something from, and then it comes to the point where it's must win, but if we get that bit of breathing space it will help with the run-in.
"We watched Braintree on Tuesday (at Maidstone). They're a fit, functional side, they run through brick walls for their manager and we have to be on our game to match them to start with. If we don't match them with our endeavour and work-rate, which we're very good at, then we'll come unstuck, but I don't believe we will."
