A cold wet Saturday morning saw the Angels Over-60’s Blues meet Ebbsfleet Greens in a top of the table clash.

Ebbsfleet stood second in the league, above the Angels on goal difference. It was a very cagey first half with neither side giving anything away. In the second half Martin Brindley put Tonbridge ahead with a sharp left hand shot from a tight angle. This prompted Ebbsfleet to push forward more but as they chased the game they began to commit offences leading to a penalty for the denial of a goal scoring opportunity with a late tackle from behind. Unfortunately, Nigel Bragg missed the spot kick with his shot cannoning off the post but Tonbridge stayed solid for the majority of the game until a slip in defence allowed Ebbsfleet to equalise. However, in their eagerness to score the winner, Ebbsfleet committed a flurry of running violations and Bragg safely tucked away both resulting penalties to give the Angels a 3-1 win. Special mention has to go to Mike Hurn, the Angels goalkeeper, who pulled off some tremendous saves to keep Ebbsfleet out. Angels now move to second place behind Bexley with three games to play.

Dom Welsh, Community Coach commented: “Probably the best performance I’ve seen since we’ve started, against a tough and very fast team! I thought the defending was excellent, ball retention and movement were very good."
