Ashford Internazionale 2-4 Angels Over-60's Blues
On a very cold Monday night, we visited Ashford who have previously provided a good challenge.
The game started strangely with two penalties awarded in the first minute, one for each team. Ashford scored but the penalty was cancelled due to an infringement but the Angels took their chance with Steve Elliott blasting the ball into the net.
The Angels looked very strong passing the ball crisply on a very wide pitch. A cut inside from the left enabled Martin Brindley to fire past the keeper and give us a 2-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Ashford came on strongly but a quick passing movement left Nigel Bragg through on goal to make it three nil.
Unfortunately Ashford then stepped up a gear and with the Angels giving away another running penalty, and a muddled finish from our opponents made it 3-2 with five minutes to play. The Angels sorted themselves out and a minute from the end Kelvin Champion fired home from close range to put the game beyond doubt.
We are now top of the central Over-60's league and hope to maintain our position at our next home game against Ashford again on the 29th of November.
Ebbsfleet 11-2 Angels Ove-60's Greens
It turned out to be a disastrous night for our Over-60's Greens when they visited Ebbsfleet. Having been sent to the wrong venue by our opponents and the league, we had to chase across North Kent to make the fixture kicking off after 9 pm. It was a bitterly cold night and our opponents had been warming up for quite a while.
Ebbsfleet are a very strong team containing a number of last year’s Bexley national champions squad plus ex-Angel Gary Aldous and, right from the start, they showed their superiority. The Greens were 2-0 down within a couple of minutes and having been disrupted by not having a full squad as they were still driving to the ground our tactics just didn’t work. By half-time we were 5-0 down and struggling with running offences.
The second half proved no better although Ebbsfleet also gave away way a penalty enabling us to bring the score to 6-1. However, another flurry of goals took Ebbsfleet to nine goals before another running offence gave us the chance to pull one back but the final score was 11-2 and whilst this didn’t really reflect the difference between the teams just about anything that could go wrong did go wrong on the evening.
Aylesford 3-2 Angels Over-50’s
Our Over-50's travelled to Aylesford on a damp, breezey evening to face the league leaders who have yet to lose a game after six outings.
The pre-match chat was about keeping it tight for the first five or so minutes to work them out. Therefore when we kicked off and they scored in the first 45 seconds that was a bit of a nightmare. Having said that we stood resolute and a ball into Darren Cray gave him the opportunity to turn and fire in a thunderous shot to equalise after two minutes. The game then settled with both teams having spells on the ball until just before half-time a deflected shot got past Mark Cornish to give Aylesford a 2-1 lead.
We were playing very well and we had the lions share of the shots in the second half but Aylesford broke away and Andy Goodall brought down their player, was given a four minute sin bin and Aylesford duly dispatched the resultant penalty from putting them 3-1 up with five minutes to play. Tonbridge hadn't finished, David Norris, the substitute introduced with three minutes to go, set up Darren Cray to get his second to make it 3-2. Aylesford were on three runs so the last minute was interesting.
Aylesford said afterwards that the game, by far was the hardest they had encountered.
