Walking Footballers hit the top

Walking Women

Women's and Over-50's reports

Our Walking Footballers have had a successful couple of weeks with the Women’s team winning and continuing to hold their place at the top of their League whilst the Over-50’s Men’s team won at Aylesford in what was considered a “must win” game.

Tonbridge Angels Women 4 Margate Women 2

Tonbridge hosted Margate in a wet and windy fixture at the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium. The Angels started the better and continued their fluid passing throughout the game in which they dominated possession.

But it was Margate who took a surprise lead when the ball awkwardly fell to their player catching the Angels’ defence off guard. Tonbridge quickly fired back with a well taken goal from leading goalscorer Sandra Donohoe to go into the break all square.

A dominant Tonbridge came out for the second half and took the lead with an angled shot from Sarah Fraser. Tonbridge started to make their possession count with an excellent strike from Donohoe into the bottom corner. The visitors pulled a goal back in the latter part of the game from a free-kick before Fraser scored a fourth to extend the Angels’ unbeaten run and take them top of the League. Two Players of the Match were awarded. Sarah Fraser for two wonderful finishes and Sherr Smith for a cracking, all-round performance in both attack and defence, keeping their star player fairly quiet.

Aylesford Over-50’s 1 Tonbridge Angels Over-50’s 8

On a wet and wild Monday night, Tonbridge Angels Over-50’s visited Aylesford for a Kent League game that fell into the category of a “must win” to retain our top four aspirations.

After a slow start, with both teams getting used to the ball zipping off the surface, it was Tonbridge who settled and started to dominate and by half-time had established a 3-0 lead.

The second half saw the Angels play with a better structure, and a more relaxed style, adding another five goals to win 8-1 and move into second place in the table. The Man of the Match was the Aylesford goalkeeper who, despite the scoreline, had a brilliant game and probably saved a further four or five being added to the scoreline with some excellent saves.

The Angels scorers were Will Burns with four, Bruce Izzard with a brace, Jason Orchard and Aaron Hill.
