Wood: "Everyone was top drawer"
The striker gives his take on a fine point for the Angels at Dartford
Tommy Wood hailed the performance of Tonbridge Angels away at high-flying Dartford FC on Saturday as Steve McKimm’s side took a richly deserved point from Princes Park.
“I think the performance today was excellent,” said Wood, whose brilliant first-half header gave the Angels the lead. “Everyone was top drawer and I think over the last few games – probably the last three or four games – I think we’ve been excellent. I think the only thing we’ve probably been lacking is just that cutting edge in the final third, getting the goals, but we’ve been working on that in training and especially in the last two games the deliveries have been better. I think we scored a fantastic goal today. Obviously I got the goal, but the delivery into the box from Joe was unbelievable.”
It was a fine goal from Wood, who headed home a whipped cross from Joe Turner for his first of the season.
“The whole build-up [showed] that little bit of composure to get a few passes in then get it out wide,” he said. “Obviously Joe has then put it into an excellent area and luckily I was there, managed to get across my man and finish it. I think there were loads of spells in the game when we did that – we created loads of chances, we looked dangerous, especially coming to somewhere like this. You probably expect to be on the back foot most of the game, but I don’t think we were. I think we were a threat all the time, we were solid at the back, so it’s a well-deserved point.”
