Kent Youth League Preview

KYL

Our coaches look forward to Sunday's games

This Sunday’s KYL fixtures sees a double header at the Yeomans Community Stadium while the Under-16’s seemingly don’t know the words to Country Roads, Take Me Home.

First up, with a midday kick-off, are the Under-15’s who take their unbeaten record into their match with Whitstable Town, as James Ward previews:

“We’re back on home turf this weekend as we take on Whitstable, the same side who hosted us for this season’s opener. Although we came away with a 5-1 win in that game, it’s worth remembering that we went in 1-0 down at half-time. Credit to Whitstable, going behind early made things very difficult for us, and they showed they’re no pushovers.

“That’s why it’s crucial we start quickly this time and put them under pressure from the first whistle. A fast start and high intensity will be key.

“We’re also pleased to welcome a few new signings into the squad, which has added real strength and depth. On top of that, our striker returns from injury after missing last weekend’s games, a big boost for us going forward.

“It’s always exciting to see new faces out there, but we also know it might take a bit of time for the boys to fully gel. That said, this is a massive game and another great opportunity to grab three points and keep our title charge on track.”

At 2pm, it is the turn of the Under-14’s to grace the Yeomans, with Oliver Stell commenting:

“Finally! The U14’s get to play a competitive home game as we welcome Old Wilsonians to the Yeomans Community Stadium this coming Sunday.

“The reverse fixture saw the Angels run out 5-1 winners, but the boys will not take the previous scoreline for granted and we are fully aware football has a strange way of bringing you timely reminders.

“The lads are focused on the task in hand, have prepared extremely well this week in training and are looking forward to crossing that white line for the first time this season.

“Fingers crossed we can make it five wins from five.”

If the U14’s finally get a homecoming, the poor old Under-16’s stay on road as the meet Fisher in the League Cup. The match will be played at St Paul’s Sports Ground, Salter Road, Rotherhithe, London SE16 5EF with a 10am kick-off, as Adam Barden relates:

“The U16’s this week travel away again, for our longest away trip of the season so far, as we travel to Fisher in the League Cup Second Round,

“Fisher are a very good, physical side so it sets us a tough challenge. The boys are full of confidence and are really looking forward to this game.

“We have been working really hard in training this week having three or four of our injured players back to heighten competition in the squad and this is really pushing the boys on and they have been working extremely hard.

“We are looking forward to this fixture and hope we can progress in this cup competition whilst keeping our unbeaten run going.”

With no KYL fixture scheduled, the U13’s have arranged a friendly as Olly Pantrey reports:

“This weekend gives the U13’s a great opportunity to try some new things as we travel to AFC Lewisham for a friendly match following the cancellation of our league game. We’ll be taking a full squad, including several new players who have joined us in recent weeks, which makes it an exciting chance to see everyone in action.

“In training, we’ve been focusing on breaking lines and improving decision-making and this game will allow us to put those ideas into practice in a different environment. We’re looking forward to continuing our recent progress, and building momentum ahead of returning to league action next week against Bearsted.”

Good luck to all our KYL teams and enjoy the games!
