Jay’s Pre-Match Briefing
“Hopefully we can put a team out to get the result and make it a really great day for everyone”
Jay says the team has to concentrate on the game, not the occasion, when we play our first game on the new pitch at Longmead.
It’s a special day for the club, and he wants to make sure it’s special ON the pitch as well:
He said: “I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to lead the team out. It’s been a long time coming after pre-season and all the away games but it’s a fantastic day for the club. Hopefully we can put a team out to get the result and make it a really great day for everyone. I’m really looking forward to it.
“We’ve been making sure we focus on the game, not the occasion. We’ve got a job to do. We’ve had three really good away results and we’ve got to build on that. I won’t be getting caught up with it, that’ll be hard to do. I know how hard everyone’s worked at the club. If we put in a performance and get a win, then we’ve played our part and everyone will enjoy the day.
“There’ll be nerves, there’ll be excitement, but my job is to get the players focussed and win a game.”
In the midweek interview after the Dover game, Tommie Fagg pointed out much of the team have never played at the ground before. Jay says that might eliminate home advantage:
“We’ve only had a few training sessions. When people talk about home advantage, I don’t think we’ve got that. The few times the players came to the ground before last week it was basically mud.
“We’ve got lots of knocks and niggles in the group, Thursday was a light recovery session after Tuesday. I’ve known Gary, their manager a long time. They’re always good sides. Tommy Wood coming back, it’ll be good to see him but we’ll pick a side to win the game.”
